A large salmon of the Pacific coast of North America, related to the sockeye and closely resembling the chinook in appearance but having a darker hue; a species of Pacific salmon (Oncorhynchus gorbuscha) known for its great abundance and its rich, oily flesh. Sewellel is an indigenous word from some Pacific Northwest Native American languages.
